Unlike the Passive Abilities, Active Abilities do require resource payment in order to activate them. Payment can be in the form of any card with a suit that matches that indicated on the skill (a small icon next to the skill name on the profile card), or the joker can be used if no other card is available.
The card used for payment is discarded and if the ability has other elements such as an attack, you’ll need to use draw another card from your hand for these extra elements. Don’t forget that your picture cards each confer additional bonuses when used for actions, but if you spend them as payment to activate an ability the additional bonuses DO NOT COUNT!! Don’t use your picture cards or jokers to pay to use an Active ability unless you’re desperate!
Just to reiterate, you may need 2 cards to play an Active Action – the payment card to activate the ability and the card you’ll use with your dice rolls when executing the ability.
Let’s look at Kurado’s Charge ability for example. You need to pay a diamond card to activate the ability. Kurado then performs a move followed by an attack which displaces the target. The Attack requires a card in the same way as any other attack, and this is a separate card to the first one played to activate the ability,
