Hi all! I thought it was time to share a bit of my peripheral work for Crystal Collapse. You’ve all seen the miniatures, but now I’m working on terrain bundles that we can release to you. We’ve got a failed project that led to a lovely thematic terrain bundle, and some nice objective pieces that I’m hoping to strongarm Max into making scenarios for!
The Mine Shack
Originally Crystal Collapse was going to come with a gaming mat set in a crystal mine. For various reasons we opted to go for a more traditional JRPG look (bright vibrant colours and clean stylised elements), to give the feel of the early levels you typically find in JRPG games. We do plan to release the mine map at some point too. Anyway, the point is, I’ve still got that early playtest mine setup in my head, so I decided I’d make a mining shack set that could link the 2 game mats! From my “Market City” disappointment that you’ll read about shortly, I decided to salvage and make use of a few of the assets I’d made. You’ll see we have a wooden shack with a pickaxe and lantern, and the roof can be used as an elevation too! There are crates and barrels, which (you guessed it!) can be used as elevations!
Oh and instead of a banana, I’ve used Nagold and Taro for scale as they’re a little more relevant to the topic!

We have a stone miner’s cottage, which can also be climbed on and used as an elevation. You see a theme here right?!

Next we have a mine track with a selection of carts with crystal loads – you can’t climb on these but they do make excellent obstacles to block movement. The spilled cart in particular takes up 2 squares, and the track is a nice decorative feature that you can move freely on. I can imagine a scenario where our intrepid heroes have to push a mine cart to the end of a track to offload the crystals whilst fending off attackers! (Max, get to writing it!!)

Warjalis Trade City – Epic Fail!
You may also have seen on my Instagram account if you follow it (if not go follow quickly so you don’t miss out on any juicy previews!), but I started making a model of Trade City Warjalis from Final Fantasy Tactics so we could use it as a game board. You can see it below up to the point I realised I’d screwed up! I wasn’t going to show you that here as it’ll only disappoint you, as it turns out I made it too closely to the original map in the game and the scale is WAAAAAAAY off so we won’t be able to release that without some real hefty modification (for context the doors are 40mm wide by 60mm high so that alone makes the whole thing look crazy out of scale!). I’ll continue to chip away at it though so never fear, it will be available to you in the future!

Rather than waste all that work, I opted to remove a few select items which could be put onto a table and used to create blocking terrain and add interest to your tabletop.
Terrain Elevations
I also made a whole bunch of elevations just like this which you’ll be able to print and paint up and get your table looking awesome in no time! There are all different shapes and layouts on offer with these so you can mix and match and have a good variety available to keep your games fresh! (I mostly play on a fixed board design and as nice as it looks, it does get tiresome playing on the same terrain all the time!) There’s also a hand painted render to give you an example of what it might look like finished (though the colours are a touch dark)

The Uber Crystal!
Another item I’ve created so far is a nice hefty Crystal Objective centre piece. Now sadly our scenario structures don’t really allow for an objective like this, but I fully intend to make lots of cool centre pieces and then force Max to write cool scenarios to incorporate them!!! If you’ve got a suggestion for something you want to see, drop it in the comments!

We always appreciate your feedback and input on all of our work as we’re ultimately doing this for you guys! Don’t be shy about sharing your thoughts and opinions as we love to hear from you!
Cheers!
Dan
