In the core box we provide you with a battlefield and some simple terrain, but this is a tabletop miniatures game and we’d love to encourage you all to create your own terrain, and maybe even your own game boards.

There are 3 types of terrain in Crystal Collapse:
- Partially blocking-blocks movement but not line of sight – a tree, fence or small rock cluster would be good examples. We’d generally advise that these should each occupy 1-2 squares.
- Blocking – blocks movement AND Line of sight – a big rock or a building of some sort. We’d suggest 2×2 or 2×3 as a good size for this.
- Elevation – An elevation is standardised to 20mm in height, so to customise your playing field you could make yourself a whole load of 40mm x 40mm x 20mm blocks and make up the playing area and stack them up as you see fit.

Our standard board size consists of a 13×9 square grid, with each square being 40mmx40mm.

For a well rounded game we recommend using 5 “islands” of elevated terrain of varying heights, 4 partially blocking elements and 1-2 blocking elements.
