Hector – First Thoughts

Meet Hector, the reigning king of Vaaland! Why is a king slugging it out on the tabletop, you ask? Because in this JRPG-themed game, Hector is not just royalty; he’s a certified badass! There’s a juicy backstory too, but we’re keeping that under wraps for now. All you need to know is that he transitions from being Kurado’s best buddy to a slightly unhinged monarch hell-bent on crystal-smashing right around the time Kurado (allegedly) murders Hector’s father, King Norform deMaris. Talk about a plot twist!

Profile Analysis

Hector’s stats scream “tank” at first glance with a whopping 9 HP! That’s right, 9—just one short of needing a second health bar. His other stats are pretty standard for a melee character, with 4 movement, a 7>1 attack, and 2 attack dice. But wait, there’s more! He also boasts 2 points of magical defense, making him tougher against spell-slingers like Lily who love dishing out magical misery.

Hellbringer – a crystal’s worst nightmare!

Hector’s Hellbringer ability turns him into the ultimate crystal crusher. Every time he attacks or interacts with a crystal, he gains 2 attack tokens. This means he’s rolling 4 attack dice against crystals, putting him on par with some of our Diamond damage dealers. Imagine Hector as the bull in a crystal shop—destruction is inevitable!

Now, here’s the catch: those extra attack tokens are like Cinderella’s carriage—they vanish at the end of the turn (Tactics Phase). So Hector needs to use them immediately. If only there were a way to give Hector an extra activation…but alas, that’s a fantasy for another day.

Only I control my fate…

Hector’s one drawback is his stubborn streak. He’s so obsessed with controlling his destiny that he outright refuses to use a phoenix feather token to resurrect. Nope, not happening. But don’t worry, he’s still got triple the survivability compared to his Spade suit comrades, who usually have a measly 3 Life Points. Hector’s basically saying, “Who needs resurrection when you’ve got 9 HP?”

So there you have it—Hector, the unhinged king with a penchant for smashing crystals and a health bar that makes most heroes jealous. Just make sure to keep him away from any crystal chandeliers.
